On Monday, a panel event addressed the mental health issues faced by female athletes, emphasizing confidence, strategies, and support for young women in sports.
The panel included Argyle-Pec Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Jennifer Wellnitz-Krogman, UW-Oshkosh basketball player Olivia Argall, and UW-Madison Women’s Basketball walk-ons Kara Crowley and Lexy Richardson.
They discussed the balance between mental and physical health in sports. Coach Wellnitz-Krogman highlighted the critical role of confidence for female athletes.
“These kids face greater challenges today, and I’m only 28. The internet plays a big part,” Wellnitz-Krogman said. “There are constant pressures about body image and performance. My advice is to stay confident and love yourself. Ignore the opinions of others.”
Wellnitz-Krogman stressed that building a confident mindset is crucial not only for her athletes but for all women in sports.
The event, which was free and open to all girls, parents, and coaches, aimed to provide valuable insights and support.
