Actors Neet Mohan and Milo Clarke, known for their roles in the BBC One drama “Casualty,” have recently shared their thoughts on their impactful storylines, aiming to raise awareness about mental health.
Over the past year, both actors have been involved in significant, issue-driven plots. This weekend’s special episode, marking Mental Health Awareness Week, will focus on Rash Masum, portrayed by Mohan, as he experiences a breakdown.
Viewers have witnessed Rash’s struggle with grief following his father’s prolonged battle with dementia and subsequent death. In a recent interview, Mohan discussed the audience’s reaction to this emotionally charged storyline.
“Having been on the show for several years, the dementia storyline involving Rash’s dad has resonated most with audiences,” Mohan shared. “I’ve had many people approach me to say how it mirrored their own experiences with family members suffering from dementia. It’s touching to play a storyline that connects with so many people.”
Mohan praised the show’s research and execution of the storyline. “It’s been portrayed so well. It’s rewarding to be part of a story that unfolds over time, not just within a single episode, allowing the character’s journey to develop.”
Similarly, Clarke reflected on his character, Teddy Gowan, who is coping with trauma from a seemingly routine call that turned disastrous.
“When I was approached with this storyline, I was nervous,” Clarke admitted. “I felt a big responsibility, but also a sense of pride because the creators trusted me with such a significant plot. I wanted to do justice to the story and ensure it resonated with viewers.”
This weekend’s episode, tailored for Mental Health Awareness Week, depicts Rash dealing with suicidal thoughts while facing the pressures of an assessment day.
“Casualty” airs on Saturday nights on BBC One. Episodes are available for streaming on BBC iPlayer from 6 am on the day of broadcast.
