The 3rd Singapore International Public Health Conference (SIPHC) convened in conjunction with the 17th Singapore Public Health and Occupational Medicine Conference on October 19 and 20 at the esteemed Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel.
Co-organized by the School and the College of Public Health and Occupational Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, this event attracted nearly 400 distinguished local and international speakers and delegates. Together, they engaged in profound discussions on pressing global public health and occupational medicine issues, all centered around the theme, “Paving the Way for the Future.” The topics under deliberation encompassed health equity, mental health, promoting healthy longevity and resilient aging, addressing public health challenges in the post-pandemic world, and exploring innovations for enhancing workplace health and well-being.
In his capacity as the Dean, Professor Teo Yik Ying delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significance of adopting a forward-looking and solution-oriented approach when confronting public health challenges. Asia currently finds itself most vulnerable to sweeping global mega-trends, including an aging population, rapid urbanization, and the far-reaching consequences of a changing climate, all of which present substantial threats to health security. These challenges unfold against the backdrop of an ongoing pandemic era, marked by the looming possibility of recurrent infectious disease outbreaks. Within this context, it becomes evident that the most substantial health burden falls upon those grappling with underlying chronic diseases.
