Bright Beginnings, a charity dedicated to supporting families with a focus on parental mental health, has unveiled a unique tea towel designed to raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being during the early stages of parenting. The initiative, created in partnership with local artist Ellie Daisy Atkinson, aims to spark conversations about the critical role of positive parental mental health while providing much-needed funding for the charity’s services.
The tea towel, which has been released just in time for the Christmas season, features a combination of symbols inspired by Guernsey’s natural beauty and the meaningful impact of Bright Beginnings’ “Beyond Blue” service. Atkinson’s design includes imagery such as the Hanois Lighthouse, local flora and fauna, and other elements that convey themes of hope, resilience, and gratitude.
Key symbols featured on the tea towel include:
Sun: Reflecting Bright Beginnings’ logo, symbolizing warmth, strength, positivity, and energy.
Hanois Lighthouse: A guiding light through challenging times, offering hope and direction.
Waves: Representing life’s ebb and flow, symbolizing the dependable support and emotional resilience families need.
Song Thrush: A local bird symbolizing joy, inner peace, and mindfulness.
Common Blue Butterflies: Representing partnership, balance, and mutual support.
Bluebells: A symbol of gratitude and enduring love.
Forget-me-nots: Representing remembrance and connection.
Snowdrops: Symbolizing renewal and brighter days ahead.
Daffodils: An emblem of new beginnings and rebirth.
Verbena: A symbol of healing and protection.
Iris: Representing hope, wisdom, trust, and courage.
Funds raised from the tea towel sales will directly support Bright Beginnings’ services, which offer antenatal and perinatal mental health support through classes, group sessions, one-on-one counseling, and more. The charity’s work is vital in helping parents establish positive, trusting relationships with their children during the first 1001 days — from conception to age two — which are critical for child development.
Lisa Blondel, CEO of Bright Beginnings, expressed her gratitude for Atkinson’s design and donation, noting that a minimum of 50% of the proceeds will benefit local families. “We are extremely grateful to Ellie for her beautiful design and her generous donation of time, which has ensured that a significant portion of the proceeds will go directly to supporting local families to give their children the best start in life.”
Ellie Daisy Atkinson, the designer, shared her thoughts on the project: “It has been an honor to design the tea towel for Bright Beginnings. I hope it helps raise awareness about the importance of positive parental mental health in Guernsey, while also contributing to the charity’s essential work in supporting families.”
The tea towels are available for purchase just in time for the holiday season, offering both a meaningful gift and a chance to support a worthy cause that touches the lives of many local families.
