Learning Grove’s NaviGo team has announced a new career exploration cohort through its Scholars program, which will begin with the upcoming school year. The program will introduce a mental health cohort, offering selected students the opportunity to learn from professionals in various mental health fields. Participants will also receive career and college planning guidance from a NaviGo Coach to enhance their educational experience.
“We’re extremely grateful for the support from our local county leaders in bringing this cohort to life,” said NaviGo Executive Director Kathy Burkhardt. “There is a growing need to promote the mental health profession and its workforce. These professionals play a vital role in healing minds and safeguarding the well-being of our community.”
The program is made possible by a grant from Boone, Campbell, and Kenton County fiscal courts, in partnership with Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services.
The mental health cohort will be divided into two groups, with each group offered during the fall and spring semesters. The first group will explore careers in social work, addiction counseling, family counseling, pastoral counseling, and art therapy. The second group will focus on psychology (both school and private practice), psychiatric services, and school counseling. Classes will take place at Gateway Community & Technical College’s Edgewood campus.
Learning Grove CEO Shannon Starkey-Taylor expressed her gratitude for the collaboration and support that made the cohort possible. “I’m thankful for NaviGo’s innovative approach, as well as the foresight of Judge/Executives Gary Moore, Kris Knochelmann, and Steve Pendery, who provided the financial backing where it’s needed most. This is a prime example of systems change at work, supporting today’s students who will become tomorrow’s leaders.”
Starkey-Taylor also highlighted the importance of Northern Kentucky organizations working together to amplify their impact.
Applications for the mental health cohort are now open on NaviGo’s website, with a deadline of Wednesday, September 4.
