Former One Direction star Liam Payne died after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday.
Authorities in Argentina have not released additional details about the incident.
The 31-year-old singer had previously spoken about the struggles he faced with loneliness and mental health during a 2019 appearance on the Sky show Ant Middleton And Liam Payne: Straight Talking.
Reflecting on his life in the public eye, Payne said, “For certain reasons, I’m lucky to be here, something I’ve never shared before.” He admitted he had not fully come to terms with his past, adding, “I can’t go too deep into it because I still haven’t made my peace.”
During the conversation, former soldier and TV personality Ant Middleton related to Payne, saying he had been through similar experiences. Payne responded, “There are times when loneliness gets overwhelming, and people constantly push at you. You often wonder, when will it end? That level of despair has nearly killed me a few times.”
