The World Health Organization (WHO) Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Athens will host two significant events in Thessaloniki, Greece, from November 2 to November 7, 2024. These initiatives aim to enhance mental health care quality for children and adolescents in Greece and the broader region.
Supported by the Greek government, the events will gather experts, policymakers, young professionals, and key stakeholders to promote progress in mental health care.
1st Autumn School on Quality of Child and Adolescent Mental Health: November 2–6, 2024
The inaugural Autumn School is a five-day interactive program designed for professionals in key mental health positions across selected member states. Participants will engage in small-group discussions, case studies, and workshops led by experts to develop strategies for defining, assessing, and improving mental health services for children and adolescents.
Key topics will cover the newly introduced WHO European Quality Standards for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, essential leadership skills, and practical methods for enhancing care quality. Attendees will also discuss how to implement these strategies in their respective countries.
The curriculum will focus on:
Equipping participants with knowledge and tools to enhance mental health services for youth.
Fostering leadership skills through self-reflection and communication exercises.
Developing stress management techniques.
Encouraging collaboration among professionals from different regions to share best practices and innovations in mental health care.
3rd Mental Health Week: November 6–7, 2024
Following the success of previous editions, the 3rd WHO Mental Health Week will coincide with the Autumn School. This annual event serves as a vital platform for sharing innovations and improving child and adolescent mental health care quality across the region.
On the first day, the WHO will introduce two new tools: the WHO European Quality Standards for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Mapping tool. Members of the Young Researchers Forum for quality in this field will present their latest research findings. Participants will also take part in interactive sessions aimed at evaluating quality improvement initiatives for regional mental health services.
The second day will focus on measuring and enhancing mental health care quality in Greece and the surrounding region. Participants will share successful quality improvement initiatives, discuss quality indicators, and engage in a session on implementing the new WHO Quality Standards.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward better mental health care for children and adolescents in Greece and the wider region.
