Shaun Davies, the former leader of Telford Council, was elected during the recent General Election, which saw his party gain significant power.
During a House of Commons debate on Urgent and Emergency Care on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Davies addressed the issue of Telford’s A&E services. He said, “For 14 years, the community in Telford and I have worked hard to protect our A&E department. However, the last Conservative Government left Telford as the largest town without a fully functioning A&E.”
He then asked Karin Smyth, the Minister for Secondary Care, if she and other Shropshire MPs could meet to discuss this issue.
Karin Smyth responded positively, saying, “I welcome my hon. Friend to his role. We are all aware, as we campaigned over the past six weeks, that this is a nationwide problem. We are committed to restoring standards and fixing the broken NHS. I am happy to meet with him to discuss this further.”
