Four firefighters needed medical treatment for heat-related illness while battling a fire at a church in San Fernando on Tuesday.
The fire began shortly before 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of San Fernando, located on W. Glenoaks Boulevard, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
It took over 100 firefighters more than two hours to completely put out the fire, which started in the attic of the single-story church.
According to a statement from the department, during the incident, four firefighters required medical attention from paramedics on scene due to heat-related issues. Three of them rested and recovered at the scene before returning to work, while one firefighter was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, although crews suspect it may have been caused by construction work on the roof.
Everyone inside the building at the time of the fire managed to evacuate safely.
