Utah brothers Peter and Mark Rane found themselves in need of better sleep, a common struggle despite their seasoned backgrounds in product development. Frustrated with existing pillow options, they decided to innovate their own solution.
Drawing on their extensive experience with companies like Yeti, Lenovo, and Crank Brothers, the Rane brothers created Twilla, a pillow designed to revolutionize sleep comfort through its patented Pod-System. This system addresses the core issue of pillow comfort: support.
“Our goal was adjustability,” Peter explained. “Everyone is different, with unique preferences, body types, and sleeping positions. We wanted to create something that offers ultimate comfort while allowing for personal adjustments.”
The Twilla pillow features an outer layer filled with a luxurious down-alternative material, ensuring both comfort and excellent airflow. However, its true innovation lies within its center, accessible via a side zipper. Inside are multiple small mini-pillows, or pods, filled with supportive foam. Users can easily add or remove these pods to customize the pillow’s size and firmness, catering precisely to their needs and preferred sleeping positions.
This design not only keeps all filling materials securely contained but also ensures tailored support for various sleeping styles.
Since its launch in 2023, Twilla has garnered praise from customers delighted by the control its adjustable design offers over their sleep experience. One satisfied customer remarked, “This is by far the best pillow I’ve ever used. Finding something that supports my head and neck so well has been a game changer.”
The pillow has also earned the endorsement of spine health expert Michael Halladay, creator of the Uprightly Spine Program, who emphasized its role in maintaining proper spine alignment during sleep. “The Twilla pillow ticks all the boxes,” Halladay affirmed.
The pod system allows users to position pods strategically for targeted support, such as placing extra pods at the front to alleviate neck pain. It accommodates sleepers who switch positions during the night, enabling customization for side, back, or stomach sleeping needs.
This customizable approach underscores Twilla’s innovation, recognizing that each sleeper’s requirements are unique. As highlighted by Sandee LaMotte on CNN, finding a pillow that supports the natural curvature of one’s neck is crucial for preventing neck and back discomfort, and Twilla aims to meet this need effectively.
Peter summarized, “Our pillow combines the luxurious feel of down alternative with excellent breathability. Coupled with the supportive foam core, it delivers both comfort and adjustable support—a true blend of the best of both worlds.”
