Two weeks ago, Nelson, aged 91, posted on his social media that he was not feeling well.
Upon his doctor’s advice, Nelson decided to rest, which led to the cancellation of his scheduled performances in Georgia and North Carolina. A subsequent show in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was also canceled a few days later.
Fans attending Nelson’s Outlaw Road Show dates were treated to performances by his band, called Family, along with his son Lukas Nelson and special guests, who performed Nelson’s classic songs and other pieces. Additional artists like Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and Celisse filled in for Nelson during his absence.
In February, Nelson had announced an “unprecedented” lineup for the Outlaw Music Festival Tour, which included himself, Dylan, Plant, Krauss, John Mellencamp, Billy Strings, Brittney Spencer, Celisse, and Southern Avenue. They were set to perform at two dozen North American dates from February through October.
“This year’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour promises to be the biggest and best yet with this lineup of legendary artists,” Nelson had said earlier. “I am thrilled to get back on the road again with my family and friends, playing the music we love for the fans we love.”
