Kamala Harris Warns: Abortion Bans Are Triggering a Health Care Crisis

by Kaia

In an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” set to air Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris stated that abortion bans in various states are depriving women of essential reproductive care, leading to a “health care crisis.”

“In those community-trusted clinics, you can get a Pap smear, breast cancer screening, HIV screening—services that allow people to address their health care concerns with dignity and without judgment,” Harris told co-host Mika Brzezinski. She reflected on her visit to a reproductive care clinic in Minnesota in March.

“That’s the role of these clinics. In states that have passed these Trump abortion bans, clinics are closing, reducing essential health care for many people,” Harris added.

The complete interview will air on “Morning Joe” on Monday, marking two years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Harris recorded the interview with reproductive rights advocate Hadley Duvall. Duvall had appeared in a campaign ad for Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s re-election campaign, discussing her need for an abortion after sexual abuse by her stepfather.

“If a woman is of reproductive age, her life is at stake this election,” Duvall told Brzezinski. She urged voters to support Biden and other Democrats this fall to protect abortion rights across the U.S.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve never voted Democrat. Get off your high horse because women have limited choices, but you can choose who to vote for,” Duvall said.

Harris emphasized that the issue is about more than health care access; it’s about freedom.

“Fundamentally, this issue is about freedom,” the vice president said. “If the right to make decisions about your own body can be taken, be aware of what other freedoms may also be at risk.”
