Halsey recently revealed details about her health struggles through her new music, expressing gratitude for being alive.
On Tuesday, the 29-year-old “Without Me” singer shared an emotional post on Instagram. She wrote, “Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album. It begins with ‘The End.’ Out now.”
This announcement coincided with the release of her new song, “The End.”
In her post, Halsey tagged the Lupus Research Alliance and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, organizations she is donating to according to a press release. While she hasn’t disclosed a specific diagnosis, the videos accompanying her announcement show her dealing with medical issues.
In one video, Halsey expressed feeling like “an old lady” and set a personal deadline for improvement. “By 30, I’m having a rebirth. I’m not gonna be sick, and I’m gonna look super hot and have lots of energy. I’m just gonna get to re-do my 20s in my 30s,” she said.
Another video showed Halsey wearing a mask in a medical facility, stating, “Today is Day 1 of treatment.” The final video shared a montage of her treatment experiences.
“The End” narrates Halsey’s health journey, with lyrics like: “Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / At first it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain / And I don’t like to complain, but I’m saying sorry.”
She ends the song with, “When I met you I said I would never die / But the joke was always mine, ’cause I’m racing against time / And I know it’s not the end of the world / But could you pick me up at 8 / ‘Cause my treatment starts today.”
Halsey, who has a 2-year-old son named Ender, has been candid about her health issues over the years, including her battle with endometriosis.
