Salvo Health, a digital gastrointestinal care startup based in New York, has successfully secured $5 million in a Seed Prime funding round. The financing was led by City Light Capital and Human Ventures, with participation from existing investors such as Torch Capital, Threshold Ventures, and Felicis Ventures. Additionally, notable angel investors, including Anmol Madan, the founder of Ginger Health, and Teladoc’s former chief data scientist, contributed to the funding.
As part of this funding round, Emily Melton from Threshold, Rachel Parlier from City Light, and Salvo’s founder and CEO, Jeffrey Glueck, will be joining Salvo’s board of directors.
Salvo Health specializes in providing virtual care services tailored for individuals dealing with chronic gastrointestinal and metabolic liver issues. This includes conditions such as celiac disease, fatty liver disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and dyspepsia.
The company distinguishes itself by offering a “wraparound care” model, employing a hybrid approach that enables patients to continue their care under the guidance of local physicians while accessing support through Salvo’s app. Salvo matches users with a dedicated care team comprising registered dietitians, behavioral health specialists, and licensed nurses, ensuring a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach covered by insurance.
The recently acquired funds will be instrumental in expanding Salvo Health’s wraparound gastrointestinal services to a broader spectrum of providers. This includes accountable care organizations, private gastroenterology practices, and health systems. Rachel Parlier of City Light Capital expressed enthusiasm for leading the investment, highlighting Salvo’s commitment to transforming the landscape of care for gastrointestinal and metabolic chronic conditions. She emphasized the company’s pivotal role in addressing the unmet needs of underserved patient populations, particularly in delivering high-touch follow-on care between appointments and post-procedures.
