A groundbreaking partnership between housing providers and the local strategic NHS leadership entity has been unveiled, with the shared objective of enhancing health outcomes for social housing residents in the Black Country, UK.
Known as the Health and Housing Forum, this collaborative initiative is spearheaded by WHG, a prominent Midlands-based housing provider, in conjunction with the Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB). The forum convened for its inaugural meeting this month, marking the commencement of an ambitious endeavor to bridge the gap between the health and housing sectors, reduce health disparities, and ensure that individuals residing in social housing can readily access essential health services.
The forum comprises three stock-holding local authorities, five housing associations, and one ALMO (Arms-Length Management Organization). An ICB, or Integrated Care Board, is a statutory NHS organization entrusted with developing a comprehensive plan to address the healthcare needs of a specific geographical area. It assumes responsibility for managing the NHS budget and coordinating the provision of healthcare services within that region.
This innovative partnership holds immense potential to effect positive change by addressing the intersecting needs of housing and healthcare. By harnessing the collective expertise and resources of both sectors, the Health and Housing Forum aspires to narrow health inequalities and enhance the overall well-being of social housing residents in the Black Country.
