Recent gatherings of health experts, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and program implementers in Ethiopia and Egypt, facilitated by JSI (John Snow, Inc.), have reaffirmed the significance of primary health care systems. These systems are essential in ensuring equitable access to high-quality healthcare for all.
One key takeaway from these discussions is the transformative potential of person-centered care strategies. By placing individuals and communities at the core of healthcare design and delivery, these strategies can stimulate demand for healthcare services and bring about positive shifts in health system behaviors.
“Creating health care with people at the center establishes a responsive system that takes into account the precise needs of the individual and community. The focus needs to be on integration of vertical programs for communicable and noncommunicable diseases to ensure holistic provision of user-centered care,” emphasized Soumya Alva, Senior Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Director of the MOMENTUM Knowledge Accelerator. “We also need to tailor human-centered programs to those most vulnerable.”
