While many of us cherish a cool, comfortable sleeping environment, a recent study suggests that seniors may benefit from turning up the thermostat a few degrees. Researchers from Harvard and the Marcus Institute for Aging Research conducted a study involving 50 individuals aged 65 and above in the Boston area.
To monitor sleep patterns and vital signs, the participants wore a ring connected to their smartphones, while sensors in their bedrooms tracked overnight room temperatures. The findings indicated that sleep quality was at its “most efficient and restful” when bedroom temperatures ranged from 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit, with the ideal range falling between 70 and 74 degrees.
This research offers valuable insights into optimizing sleep conditions for seniors, potentially enhancing their overall sleep quality and well-being.
