UC San Diego’s Stein Institute for Research on Aging and the Center for Healthy Aging are hosting a free public lecture series that focuses on promoting physical and mental well-being for individuals of all ages. The lecture series is designed to highlight the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle throughout life.
On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Dr. Fadel Zeidan, Director of the Pain Health and Mindfulness Laboratory and Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at UC San Diego’s Center for Pain Medicine, will lead a virtual lecture exploring the role of mindfulness-based mental training in enhancing well-being and promoting healthy aging. Following the lecture, there will be a Q&A session moderated by Danielle Glorioso.
Dr. Zeidan’s extensive research focuses on understanding the mechanisms that link self-regulation techniques, such as mindfulness meditation, with health outcomes, particularly in pain modulation. His work investigates how mindfulness practices and placebo effects influence neural processes related to pain and overall health. Additionally, Dr. Zeidan explores the effects of psychedelics, including psilocybin, DMT, and cannabis, on pain perception and neural activity. His latest research efforts aim to uncover how empathy and compassion can be nurtured through self-regulatory practices and psychedelic therapies.
This event is free and open to the public, offering valuable insights into how mindfulness can be a powerful tool for promoting long-term health and well-being.
