On Monday, Sweden’s Public Health Agency advised parents to restrict screen time for toddlers. The agency recommended that children under the age of two should avoid digital media and TV entirely.
For kids aged two to five, screen time should be limited to one hour per day. Children between six and 12 years old should spend no more than one to two hours daily in front of screens. Teenagers aged 13 to 18 should limit their screen time to two to three hours each day.
Public Health Minister Jakob Forssmed highlighted that Swedish teens aged 13 to 16 average six and a half hours of screen time daily, excluding school hours. He expressed concern that this excessive screen use leaves little time for social activities, physical exercise, or adequate sleep. Forssmed noted a “sleep crisis” in Sweden, stating that more than half of 15-year-olds do not get enough sleep.
