The Health Ministry has reported an increase in West Nile virus cases to 543 patients. Since the outbreak started in June, 36 people diagnosed with the virus have died.
West Nile fever is caused by the West Nile virus. Approximately 80% of infected individuals exhibit no symptoms. About 20% may experience symptoms such as fever, headaches, and body aches to varying degrees.
According to the ministry, less than 1% of those infected may develop rare complications like acute inflammation of the brain or meningitis.
To prevent infection, the ministry advises using mosquito repellents and suitable devices to repel mosquitoes in residential areas. The virus primarily spreads to humans through mosquito bites, especially from mosquitoes that feed on birds. Importantly, West Nile virus does not transmit directly from person to person.
