Ferndown Manor, located on Golf Links Road, is hosting a healthy eating and hydration workshop aimed at supporting the elderly and their caregivers. The event will take place on Thursday, March 20, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The care home’s initiative seeks to educate attendees about the vital importance of proper nutrition and hydration for seniors. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to sample healthier versions of familiar dishes. Head Chef David Marshall will lead a discussion on managing blood sugar levels, including the symptoms, causes, and effects of high blood sugar. Additionally, he will offer tips on how to recognize dehydration and improve appetite.
This workshop is designed to serve as an educational platform for those living with health conditions like diabetes, as well as their carers. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and gain practical advice on making healthier food choices, including simple ingredient swaps. The event will also provide an informal setting for attendees to share their experiences and take home a free guide with helpful information.
Sara Muslin, the home manager at Ferndown Manor, expressed excitement about the event: “We’re eager to welcome the local community to our nutrition and hydration workshop. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, reconnect with familiar faces, and enjoy some nutritious food together.”
