Sainsbury’s has introduced a new range of functional health products, including raw pressed fruit juices, designed to help shoppers make healthier choices more easily.
The supermarket’s latest offerings include four cold-pressed juices and two juice shots, available in both individual servings and larger dosing sizes. A key feature of these juices is their use of watermelon juice instead of the traditionally used apple juice. Watermelon juice, naturally low in sugar, helps these drinks contain up to 45% less sugar than many other juices on the market.
These juices are not pasteurised, but instead undergo cold pressing and high-pressure processing, allowing them to retain more nutrients and maintain a fresher taste. The four juice options available are Collagen, Immunity, Daily Greens, and Digest, with immunity and collagen shots also available to further support health.
This launch aligns with findings that 77% of Sainsbury’s customers want to make healthier dietary choices but often face challenges like lack of inspiration and time. In addition to the raw pressed juices, Sainsbury’s is also offering kefir drinks and fat-free protein yoghurts, available in Cherry & Vanilla, Mango & Passionfruit, and Strawberry flavours. These products contain fewer ingredients than many other protein yoghurts, are naturally sweetened with real fruit, and provide 15g of natural protein.
To further support customers in making healthier choices, Sainsbury’s has introduced a new ‘Healthy Choice’ icon. This icon will eventually appear on over 1,300 products across different categories, helping customers quickly identify items with key nutritional benefits like higher fibre, protein, Omega-3, or calcium content, or those that contribute to their 5-a-Day fruit and vegetable intake.
Nilani Sritharan, head of healthy and sustainable diets at Sainsbury’s, commented, “We’re committed to making healthy essentials affordable and accessible for all our customers. With initiatives like Aldi Price Match and the introduction of the Healthy Choice Icon, we aim to help our customers find easy ways to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and nutrients into their diets.”
The new range is available in selected stores and online from January, with introductory offers available on select products. Further items will be added to the range in April.
