Adams, who played for the Cornhuskers in the early 2000s and won a Lifter of the Year Award, spoke at the newly opened April Sampson Cancer Center located near 40th and Saltillo Road.

Earlier this year, Adams experienced a pulmonary embolism and collapsed at his home. Thanks to the quick response of a 911 dispatcher and his wife, who performed CPR, he was revived.

This incident prompted Adams to focus more on his health and advocate for other men to do the same.

“As men, we’re often taught to push through pain,” Adams said. “In football, that meant getting tougher when things were difficult. But as I’ve aged, I’ve learned that listening to your body and seeking expert advice is crucial.”

As part of his recovery, Adams has been visiting the center monthly and appreciates the treatment available in Lincoln.

Since its opening in March, the center has highlighted its range of services, including oncology care, rehabilitation, and recreational activities for patients.
